cisyphus:

Slurs are not oppressive because they are offensive, they are oppressive  because slurs by nature of being slurs draw upon certain power dynamics  to remind their target of his/her/their vulnerability in a certain relation to power and as an extension of that, to threaten violence and exploitation of that vulnerability.

Photo Booth Series I

I never really feel comfortable with my body, although i have made progress there are still sometimes when i feel less than happy with the way i look. I remember there was a point in my life where i couldn’t even take off my shirt in front of close friends without feeling self conscious. Thankfully that is no longer the case, however i am fully aware that no matter how comfortable i am in my own skin someone else will find me repulsive. As a queer male in the age of cyber cruising each quality and identity a person has becomes categorized and isolated to be deemed attractive or unattractive by other individuals via online platforms. These images combine both craigslist personal ads and self portraits in which i have felt at ease enough with my body to take photos.
